About the Seminar
The seminar will kick off with a discussion about "What is Human Trafficking" with an emphasis on the state and federal trafficking laws that govern its enforcement. As lawyers and citizens we need to know the signs for prevention and detection. This is key to recognizing the signs of trafficking that may exist in your family, town, and the clients you serve. This important discussion will underscore the magnitude of Human Trafficking and bring this ugly crime home to our hearts. Sheila Roemeling will share survivor stories without identifying the factors of all they go through with traffickers, the legal system, law enforcement, their families, and other crimes they are found to have committed. We will also learn why it is so difficult to keep a survivor ready to take the stand.

With over 20 years of combined experience in Law Enforcement and Victim Advocacy, Laurie and Heidi will provide highlights of Human Trafficking in South Carolina for 2020. Attendees will have the opportunity to look behind the scenes of these investigations, explain the importance of creating multidisciplinary teams for recovery, restoration, and prosecution of these cases.
