This seminar will discuss the legal analysis of State v. Spears in the context of police interactions. The panelists will discuss the purpose of a police interaction and the voluntariness of a police interaction. Central questions to this discussion will be: Who is the reasonable person? How does the reasonable person differ now vs. when the concept was created? How does a person's background and life experiences impact a person's understanding of the voluntary nature of a police interaction?
Discrimination in the Age of Algorithms: A discussion of the intersection of implicit bias and risk assessment technology.
This seminar will discuss how implicit bias pervades the use of artificial intelligence and algorithms in risk assessment technology.
