Essentials Series: Transactional/Corporate Practice

October 14, 2021

Join the SC Bar CLE Division on Thursday, October 14th for the 2021 Transactional/Corporate Law Essentials Course. This years program was planned by practitioners Will Umbach and Melissa Cassell.

This seminar is a basic level program.

This program qualifies for 6.5 MCLE credit hours, 1.0 LEPR credit hours. SC Commission on CLE Course # 217287E

Requirement to take South Carolina Bar CLE “Essentials Series.”

Pursuant to SCACR Rule 408(a)(3), newly admitted members are required, unless you fall within one or more of the exemptions outlined in Rule 408 (a)(3)(A)-(D), to complete one (not all) of the SC Bar CLE “Essentials Series” courses.  Attendance at Essentials Courses not only meets the Essentials requirement, but also counts toward your required annual 14 hours of MCLE. No other CLE course, workshop, video series (i.e., the Supreme Court’s Course of Study), or bootcamp will satisfy this requirement.

The “Essentials Series” is comprised of 10 full-day courses, which cover major practice areas, as well as legal ethics.  Each course is designed and taught by experienced practitioners, are process oriented, and are specifically designed to provide step-by-step teaching, as well as the opportunity to interact with the faculty.

By Order dated May 5, 2021, the South Carolina Supreme Court has waived the requirement that new admittees attend an Essentials Series course in-person at the SC Bar Conference Center.  Therefore, if you choose to fulfill the requirement online, you may do so by completing a pre-recorded, on-demand version of the program of your choice no later than the annual MCLE filing deadline of March 1, 2022.  Those programs will be made available at a later date.

We will, however, offer each of the Essentials Series programs, live, at the SC Bar Conference Center.  There are advantages to attending in person.

1.    Programs will not be available via live webcast but will be available on-demand.

2.    In-person attendance will afford the opportunity to interact and network with the faculty.

3.    By Commission rule, only live, in-person MCLE credit hours may be carried forward to the following MCLE reporting period.

4.    Lunch will be provided for those attending in-person.

5.    In-person attendees will be offered significant discounts on SC Bar CLE publications.
